The Funk dynasty has been a crucial part of wrestling since 1943, when Dory Funk Sr. made his debut. Working primarily in the Texas territories, Dory Sr. became a promoter when his 30-year in-ring career finally came to an end, and his sons, Terry and Dory Jr., followed him into the business in the 1960s.

Terry’s legacy definitely stands out the most. A former NWA Champion, he is the only wrestler to be inducted into the WWE, WCW, Wrestling Observer, NWA, and Professional Wrestling Halls of Fame. His feud with Ric Flair in the 1980s remains the stuff of legend, and in the 1990s, he played a pivotal role in leading ECW’s extreme revolution, before wrestling for WWE during the Attitude Era, then jumping to WCW later on.

Dory Jr., meanwhile, is regarded as one of the greatest technicians of his generation, and has a four-year NWA Title reign to his name. As a unit, The Funks were a huge deal in Japan, achieving tremendous success in AJPW during the ‘70s and ‘80s, and becoming two of the highest drawing foreign wrestlers of all-time. Now 76 years old, Dory Jr., can still be found competing for All Japan every now and then, as unlikely as it may seem.
