12 Huge WWE Dream Matches That Were Supposed To Happen But Didn’t

5. Steve Austin Vs Triple H (SummerSlam 1999)

The events surrounding the SummerSlam 99 main event are bizarre, to say the least. Austin was originally supposed to wrestle Triple H in a straight singles match and lose the title. The white-hot Austin vetoed this idea and the match was changed to a triple threat match when Mick Foley was added to the equation. Oh, and the Governor of Minnesota Jesse Ventura was the special referee. Stone Cold wouldn't lose to Triple H, whose backstage manipulating he was acutely aware of of, but had no problems losing it to buddy Mick Foley. So that's what he did. Foley beat Austin clean, the first wrestler to do so in over a year and a half. Shawn Michaels very publicly blasted Austin for refusing to job to Triple H, which is ironic when you consider Shawn's own history of job-avoidance. Triple H won the belt the next night on Raw anyway, rendering the whole thing rather pointless. Austin would again refuse to job to Triple H in 2002, shortly before he 'took his ball and went home'.
