12 Most Brutal WWE Chair Shots

How many ways can you describe a chair shot? I guess there’s only one way to find out…

Back in 2010, and in the midst of Linda McMahon’s totally unrelated campaign to become Senator, WWE officially outlawed chair shots to the head.

For many, it wasn’t a particularly popular decision but in hindsight, it's now looking like a very welcome one. And if you still find yourself with any lingering doubts about that claim, see what you think about it all after checking out some of the entries on this list.

Over the years, we’ve seen some frankly brutal chair shots delved out in and around the ring, some of which you could argue were simply well worked, and others that were rather more dangerous to the point of being outright reckless.

Here, we look back at a dirty dozen such examples, covering repeat offenders, guys who have made an unfortunate habit of being on the receiving end of these things, and one chair shot in particular that left its victim with broken bones.

So next time you lament the tamer sight of a chair shot to the back or a jab to the gut, just remember some of these instances and be grateful people aren’t being canned in the skull anymore…

12. The Undertaker On Brock Lesnar (Unforgiven 2002)

Placing a hand on The Undertaker’s wife—and a pregnant wife, at that—is never a particularly wise strategy, as Brock Lesnar would likely have told you coming out of Unforgiven 2002.

The feud between Lesnar and ‘Taker had become personal after Paul Heyman dragged a baby-bearing Sara into the narrative. That led to a tense backstage standoff between Lesnar and Sara, in which the former placed his hand on the latter’s stomach, before informing her that “life’s a bitch.”

Smooth, Brock. Very smooth.

‘Taker naturally didn’t take too kindly to this, and the story of their rivalry morphed into one of 'The Deadman' seeking retribution—retribution that arrived in the form of a rasping chair shot that did just as much damage to the chair itself as it did to Lesnar’s face.

Lesnar was brought to his knees before a second strike sent him tumbling through the ropes, but it was the sound of that first shot and the damage done to the chair that made it seem the more brutal of the two.
