12 Super Weird Quirks Unique To ONE Wrestler
3. The Rock’s Stomp Wobble
Cards on the table: The Rock has likely discussed his wobbly stomp technique in interviews before, or maybe he brought it up in his kayfabe-esque book back in the day. Actually, that sounds more like the kind of story great reads from Mick Foley, Chris Jericho or Bret Hart would've dropped in. Rock kept things relatively simple in his autobiography.
Rocky surely borrowed this from another wrestler in the past. It might've been his father Rocky Johnson or Tony Atlas, because he was a bright eyed young lad watching from ringside when they worked as a tag-team. If not, then he deserves praise for coming up with something radically different to the usual stomping style of wrestlers up and down the business.
Look right back to his fledgling days as Rocky Maivia and you'll see the 'Great One' shake or wobble his leg during each stomp on downed opponents. This became a real trademark of his matches. There were plenty of stomps during his excellent stint in the 1998 Royal Rumble if you want to feast on them, by the way. Rock got wobbly plenty in that one!
The more one thinks about it, the more plausible it is that he was inspired by his dad or another legend. Rock's fame skyrocketed to the extent that even something borrowed became his though. Put it this way: No-one in 1998 was going to criticise the rising Nation Of Domination member for patterning his movements after anyone who had come before.
You wobble that leg, sir. Wobble it proudly.
