12 Super Weird Quirks Unique To ONE Wrestler

2. Rock’s Flippy Stunner Sell

Late-1997 brought about one of the WWF/WWE's finest feuds ever. The Rock and Steve Austin battled for the Intercontinental Title, and they'd eventually move on up the card to war over the top line WWF Title too. By 1999, Rocky was taking stunners near enough weekly, and he always sold them like the rent was due.

Most wrestlers would flop to their backs or crumple onto their stomachs after taking one of 'Stone Cold's' deadly finishers, but Rock did something unique to him. He'd push off when taking the stunner, so much so that he'd flip back the way. Using his hands to help, he'd spring around the place and often hit the ropes in comical 'shot out of a cannon' fashion.

Other notable sell jobs for the move include Scott Hall and even D’Lo Brown, but The Rock’s has become the most memorable amongst fans who enjoyed the 'Attitude' days (either at the time or via catch up binge sessions). People are so enamoured with his selling of the move that there was tremendous disappointment when Austin failed to appear in a cameo spot at WrestleMania 40 a few years back.

People really wanted to see big Dwayne careen into the ropes one more time.

Rock's sell job for the stunner has become so immensely popular in wrestling circles that you'll almost definitely see some independent workers sell it the same way on smaller spot shows. Being honest, even the chap writing this has tried his hand at some Rocky fish flopping during post-show 'stunner parties' over the years.
