12 Super Weird Quirks Unique To ONE Wrestler
11. The Chris Hamrick Bump
Meanwhile, ex-ECW man and journeyman pro Chris Hamrick nearly saw a doctor.
If you've ever heard some crusty old timer wax lyrical about how wrestling was better in the 1990s, then you might've heard them mention the 'Hamrick bump'. Weirdly, those people (this writer is looking in a mirror here) don't then explain exactly who Hamrick was. They just get all misty-eyed and look off into the distance whilst reminiscing.
The truth is that Hamrick's trademark bump was scary and dangerous. He'd go to springboard off the middle rope mid-Irish Whip, miss it on purpose, then fly out of the ring between the top and middle strands as fans around ringside thought they'd just witnessed one of the most painful botches of all the times.
They hadn't - Chris meant every bit of the "mistake". It looked spectacular, but it had to hurt like hell. There's a good reason why not many others have tried this over the years. Anyone who has likely scorched their butt/back/neck on the ringside mats and then thought, 'Well I ain't doing that again'.
Somehow, to his immense credit, Hamrick was able to make it work without injuring himself. The spot became a regular part of his matches when working as a job guy in the WWF or ECW, which is pretty funky because not many enhancement workers could boast about having their very own spot fans looked forward to seeing.
Word to the wise: Any independent workers reading this should steer clear. Come up with something else and save yourself the medical bills.
