12 Superstars And Divas WWE Creative Have Completely Abandoned
6. Curtis Axel
When Michael McGillicutty was brought back and rebranded as Curtis Axel, it became readily apparent that the WWE had big plans for him. Quickly earning dubious victories over the likes of John Cena and Triple H, Axel went on to win the Intercontinental Championship, but soon ended up being yet another of only a handful of Superstars likely to regret ever becoming a 'Paul Heyman Guy'. The problem started when Axel essentially became CM Punk's punching bag during his feuds with both Brock Lesnar and Ryback, something which damaged what little credibility he had as an up-and-coming Superstar, and while Rybaxel was entertaining enough, it was clearly one of those things only done to give both team members something to do. When that ended, Axel was demoted to jobber status, showing up sporadically to lose a match here and there. Then, the Royal Rumble happened. Bizarrely, fans embraced the whole AxelMania gimmick, but like most other things, WWE Creative soon spoiled that by transforming Axel into a Hulk Hogan cosplayer. The scandal surrounding that controversial legend soon brought a merciful end to that, and like Damien Sandow, Axel has now vanished. You have to believe there's still some hope for the son of Mr. Perfect but, at this point in time, he's clearly an afterthought.
