A big factor in Sting's WWE deal getting made was 2K's involvment. The video game maker of WWE 2K15 needed a face of the brand for marketing purposes. They approached Sting in much the same way they had Ultimate Warrior in 2013. A deal got brokered by 2K that would incorporate Sting into WWE 2K15 as the game mascot. This deal was worked out in unison with WWE who used the video game as a bridge to Sting coming in to a WWE television role. That route had proved very successful for Ultimate Warrior when he was the mascot for WWE 2K14. The game reintroduces a character to the audience, and then WWE capitalise with an on-air role. Sting's marketing role with 2K15 has been very successful, but what comes next with WWE promises to be even bigger!
