Braun says that there are so many little things that lead to someone reaching the upper echelon of their chosen sport, and adds that his dad wouldn't let him start lifting weights until he was 16 or 17 due to the fear that it would stunt his growth.

He worked out in high school but nothing too extreme, stating that he probably only maxed out at around 300 pounds on the bench and squat. Austin says looking at Braun, he would assume that powerlifting had consumed his life from a young age and wants to know when he decided to pursue the strongman competitions.

Strowman was working security at a nightclub in Charlotte, North Carolina and ran into a couple of strongmen who were working at another bar, and when they saw him they invited him to come out and give the competition a try.

He went out about a week later and gave it a shot and immediately fell in love with it. Braun says he's always referred to himself as "country strong", saying his body was built for picking up things like rocks and haybales.
