8. Wrestlemania
It's now common knowledge that the concept of Wrestlemania was a massive gamble for Vince McMahon and his wrestling juggernaut. To tell the truth, WWE would likely not be the titan it is today had the idea been a miserable flop. Coming up with the plan to mix wrestling, music, celebrity and pageantry - all in one big old entertainment soup - was decried as madness by McMahon's most closely-trusted lieutenants, but Vince saw something different, he saw Wrestlemania, and a brighter future for his business. As we know now, Wrestlemania is an annual supershow which plays before the biggest crowds of the year, both on location and remotely on TV. Routinely host to the largest marquee matches, nostalgic returns and most earth-shattering moments on the WWE calendar, 'Mania is an institution. It may be easy to rag on Vince McMahon now, but he's earned respect solely by putting his own neck on the line, all to create something which gives countless pro wrestling admirers goosebumps year in year out.
