12 Things You Didn't Know About Sting

7. The REAL Reason He Left WWE

When the 'Stinger' did ultimately arrive on WWE programming in 2014, things unfortunately went from exciting to soul-crushing at an alarming speed.

In the wake of a thrilling Survivor Series debut, Sting eventually fell to 'The Game' in both his first-ever WWE match and his WrestleMania debut.

That giant final middle finger to WCW was just the beginning of a disastrous spell in the world of sports entertainment, with the 'Icon' following up that PLE 'L' with another defeat at the next special event - a match that ended up being his last in WWE after a serious neck injury suffered in the contest.

After all that, though, and despite not really feeling a need to get back in the ring, Sting did still yearn for one last match whilst under WWE contract.

The bout he fancied would have been a cinematic clash with The Undertaker, finally delivering a version of the dream match fans had long been begging for. However, they were never able to reach an agreement on the match, and Sting would later state (via Sports Illustrated) that this was actually one of the reasons he eventually decided to hop over to AEW in 2020. That and the fact things just weren't "working out" with WWE (via Bleacher Report).

And the rest was properly elite history.
