12 Times Crowds Actually IMPROVED Wrestling Moments
7. Who's Your Daddy Montreal?!
Shawn Michaels has earned a reputation as a bit of a d*ck in his WWE career, particularly for the first half, which ended abruptly at WrestleMania XIV. Since then he became a born-again Christian and has washed himself clean of all his demons - or so the wrestling world thought.
To promote his fight with Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels took to the ring in total heel mode, embracing the hate that Montreal fans had uncorked just for him, hatred they had been saving ever since the infamous screwjob where he screwed Canadian hero, Bret Hart, in his hometown. Shawn was on fire, mocking the Canadian anthem and giving the fans some cheeky hostility. The fans were the gasoline, and they showered Shawn in boos along with stark reminders that he screwed Bret, to which Shawn replied, "I'd do it again!"
But the segment became stellar when Bret Hart's music hit, and then, nothing but a smug smirk from Shawn. The crowd bit on the music like a fish on hooked shrimp, then returned to their volatility as Shawn rubbed salt in the wound. He goes for the rib again, having Hogan's music play, just to confirm to himself that Montreal was a bunch of marks.
Shawn, a valiant face before and after this match needed a promo like this in a hostile setting. Nobody could buy into him being a heel when he keeps getting cheered. Montreal finally let him embrace the heel role.
