12 Times Crowds Actually IMPROVED Wrestling Moments
6. The Rock Vs Hollywood Hogan - Wrestlemania X8
It doesn't get much bigger than Icon versus Icon.
The Rock at that stage was as hot as he could ever be and Hollywood Hogan, having returned to WWE after an eon in rival promotion, WCW, was riding a tsunami of nostalgia. Fans might have some hatred reserved for the traitorous Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, but in a genuine sense, no love was lost for Hogan.
Canada has always had a reputation for holding more contrarian fans, often being dubbed Bizzaro World by commentators. They brought that energy with them into Toronto's SkyDome, the site of Ultimate Warrior's victory over Hogan. They could not bring themselves to boo Hogan, the supposed heel of the match, instead directing their anger towards The Rock.
The entire dynamic of the match changed from that point. Rock instead decided to work the match as a heel, letting Hogan go back to what he truly knew best, hulking up and no-selling, only this time to fall short to WWE's torch barer.
The abundance of optimism that surrounded Hogan that night was enough for him to begin a new phase of his career where he could realistically work matches and main event shows all the way up to WM XIX. He would go on to win the undisputed title, and the tag titles with Edge.
