12 Times Crowds Actually IMPROVED Wrestling Moments
5. Bret Hart Vs The British Bulldog - Summerslam 1992
One of the few WWE events to take place in Great Britain, 1992's Summerslam at Wembley Staidum is remembered as a one-match-card, with the Intercontinental title taking precedent over the WWF championship this one night, as Bret Hart defended his title against hometown hero The British Bulldog.
In many ways, Hart refers to this as a perfect match, which, remarkably, was called entirely by him in the ring as Bulldog had forgotten what to do. Granted, for this match to have been remembered fondly by British fans of the WWE, all Bulldog would have had to do would be to get the cover on Bret and secure the title. Those fans wanted nothing more than to see the symbol of their nationality triumph over, in this case, the foreign menace.
Bulldog's big win in England was a particularly important because of WWE's international audience. Often times, fans need another wrestler's popularity validated to them, and nothing was more validating for Bulldog than the adulation he received after winning the IC title that day in Wembley. It was as if he singlehandedly brought the World Cup to England, as Rule Britannia played throughout the stadium. Bret Hart may have had to deal with the loss for a little bit, but after this match, Bulldog would remain in the main event picture, always a threat to any WWF champion.
