12 Times Crowds Actually IMPROVED Wrestling Moments
4. Sting Beats Down The New World Order - Uncensored 1997
It's hard to overstate just how hot the nWo was in 1997: this overpowering dark force was set to capture and assimilate everything that WCW held dear. They were so powerful they even subverted and corrupted the hero of old and made him into a force for evil, and they also had the NBA's leader in rebounds with Dennis Rodman. With WCW's values torn asunder, they needed a new hero.
Finally, descending from the heavens came a dark angel more deathly than Samael and armed with a baseball bat.
Up until this point, Sting had been an ambivalent fence-rider, watching from the rafters, but never exacting judgement on anyone. Once WCW had exhausted their heroes, though, it was finally time for their chosen one to return. With the darkness consuming his very being, The Crow version of Sting brought cold justice to everyone who he deemed deserving.
Sting had been out of action for too long and fans needed a refresher, both in the live audience and on the TV. When fans who had ordered the pay-per-view saw what Sting was capable of, not just in terms of inflicting damage on his opponents, but also in terms of getting a response form the crowd, there was no doubt in anyone's mind that this warrior would be the one to unseat the tyrranical NWO.
If only they booked his title match correctly.
