12 Times Vince McMahon's Plans Blew Up In His Face
10. A McMahon In Every Corner
Heading into the year 2000, only one WrestleMania main event seemed appropriate - Triple H, who had become the top heel in the company, versus The Rock, who had exploded as one of the most popular superstars of all time. It had been almost two years since the two had clashed at SummerSlam 1998 in a match that made both men stars, and the time was right for them to headline the year's biggest show. Instead, the opening months of 2000 brought confusion. The Rock won the Royal Rumble match at the expense of the newly-turned-heel Big Show, but Show subsequently won the WrestleMania title shot from The Rock after some help from Shane McMahon. Vince took The Rock's side, and Linda McMahon reinstated Mick Foley just weeks after his supposed retirement. In the end, the main event of WrestleMania 2000 was a four-way match with a McMahon in every corner. Just as the buildup was a backdrop for the McMahon family, so was the match. Big Show and Foley were eliminated relatively quickly and it came down to Triple H and The Rock. Though babyfaces had reigned supreme at the 15 prior WrestleManias, this time, things were different. Vince McMahon turned heel, helping HHH win and forming an alliance with the WWE Champion and his own estranged daughter. The ending, like the match and everything leading up to it, was a letdown.
