10 - Main Event Mini-Banger

Guevara Omega
FITE TV

Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara Vs. Kenny Omega and Hangman Page was a very good, briskly-paced TV main event.

To the detriment of his character, Omega is clearly loving being back in that ring, and he maintained his creeping, excellent return to last year’s form. Page has quietly re-announced himself as a star; he looks very different to the man who lost at All Out and struggled to get over on week one.

Guevara is still green at this level, which accounted for odd moments of hesitation, but his potential is major and he knows what cannot be taught. During his heat spot, he turned to Jericho and said ‘Hey Chris, watch this!” in a beg for his approval. What a tremendous little snivelling sh*t he is, and of course Omega punished that with the comeback.

Jericho only tagged in when it suited him, and impressed in short bursts. He left Guevara out to dry, several times, in a dynamic that will undoubtedly inform their singles match two years from now. This was careful world-building, in contrast to Page’s unreal sell of the Judas Effect, which wasn’t.

He aims all of his face into Jericho’s elbow and throws himself to the mat as if he’s just dropped dead. He should take this every week, he gets it over so well.
