12 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (13 Aug)

5. Not Guilty, Your Honour

Rowan Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan might not be a late-'90s/early-'00s pop-reggae artist, but he does bear a passing resemblance to the other famous Shaggy, and last night's message was simple: "it wasn't me."*

Or Rowan.

SummerSlam saw the king of cutoff metal tees batter Buddy Murphy during his Kickoff Show bout with Buddy Murphy, ordering the Aussie keep his name out of his mouth. He and Bryan followed up with a first-hour address in which Daniel vehemently denied any wrongdoing in the ongoing Roman Reigns situation, claiming they had nothing to do with the attempts on 'The Big Dog's' life, calling Murphy a liar.

"Buddy gave the wrong name," Bryan claimed, prompting chants of "it was you!" from the crowd. While Daniel said he hated to disappoint the audience, him and his enforcer just weren't involved - and they'd prove it later on.

Characteristically strong stuff from Bryan here. His promos are as big a sure thing as anything else in the company. If he did, indeed, play a role in all of this, he did a great job trying to convince us that he didn't, the vile, hateful prick.

* hear that? That's the sound of Mauro Ranallo's lawyers picking up the phone.
