12 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (13 Aug)
7. Keith Is Upset
Randall Keith Orton had a few choice words for Kofi Kingston and The New Day ahead of what was supposed to be a tag team main event.
'The Viper' emerged after shots of his SummerSlam match with the WWE Champion appeared onscreen, claiming Kingston had run away from the fight in front of his wife and children. Someday, he claimed, those kids will grow up and ask their daddy why he took the easy way out rather than standing his ground, and Kofi will tell them the truth: he can't beat Orton.
Randy promised to give Kofi the chance to redeem himself there and then, thus making the bout a six-man tag. A very WWE setup, but it worked.
Orton's promo work was strong here, with the former 'Legend Killer' slithering his way into another opportunity and, presumably, a second WWE Title shot. That SummerSlam finish was divisive and the match unspectacular, though last night's content delivered.
