12 Ups And 15 Downs For WWE In 2017 (2nd Opinion)

9. Women Get The Spotlight

Before Stephanie McMahon saved women’s wrestling and elevated it by announcing the all-female Royal Rumble, the women of WWE were breaking new ground all year.

They have main-evented the TV shows multiple times, shattering the image that it was unique and rare. They competed in the first women’s Money in the Bank ladder match (although it was a man who ultimately retrieved the briefcase). And women from NXT and across the globe competed in the Mae Young Classic, a 32-woman tournament that shone a spotlight on women’s wrestling.

Even though there are several things you could point to as a negative, overall the female superstars continued to make strides in 2017, and the era of 90-second divas matches serving as bathroom breaks gets further in the rear-view mirror. That alone merits a thumbs-up here.
