12 Ups And 16 Downs For WWE In 2018
11. Tag Team Doldrums
Despite some of the best talent in the wrestling world, WWE has managed to make its tag team divisions on both brands about as interesting as an already-completed crossword puzzle.
While SmackDown boasts three solid teams – Usos, New Day and The Bar – they’ve been around and at or near the top for what seems like forever. They tried to freshen it up with the Bludgeon Brothers, but beyond that, we only recently saw the Good Brothers re-emerge from hibernation. The rest of the blue brand tag division was almost invisible. Still, it’s better than the alternative…
Over on Raw, the 2018 situation was much worse. Your champs this year included the Deleters of Worlds and the B-Team, as well as short biding-their-time reigns from duos like Dolph Ziggler & Drew McIntyre and Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins. The latter team split moments after their tag title victory, rendering the tag titles moot for a month.
It’s a sad state and far cry from past eras, which is ridiculous to state because there are good teams out there (think Revival, Good Brothers, AOP), but creativity-wise, this hasn’t been a good year.
