2007 was a strange year for Vincent Kennedy McMahon. Well, I'm sure that every single year is strange for the Genetic Jackhammer, but 07 was particularly off the wall.

His year on TV started with him getting blown up in a limousine, presumed dead. A three-hour memorial show dedicated to the fictionally-deceased McMahon was planned and canned, after the Chris Benoit tragedy of that summer.

Things got weirder over the summer for Vince, as he was slapped with a paternity lawsuit regarding an illegitimate long-lost child, who by some miraculous coincidence happened to be a member of the WWE roster! What are the odds! Rumour has it that the man to be revealed as being of McMahon stock was none other than Mr. Kennedy, but a suspension put paid to that.

The story was almost designed to propel someone into the wrestling stratosphere, something it most definitely could have done if booked with a modicum of care.

Instead, WWE went with their failsafe for all reveal stories (more on that shortly), by announcing Hornswoggle as the newest McMahon.

Months of pointlessness followed, before JBL of all people told McMahon that Hornswoggle was actually Finlay's son, not a product of McMahon's grapefruits.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
