In 2001, the grandest war in wrestling history ended when WWE purchased the assets of WCW. Though many fans were unsure where this would take the industry, the fact some of the most tantalizing dream matches in recent memory were about to become reality was enough to excite most people who followed the sport.

Instead, the whole invasion storyline was a mess. It fizzled out in a matter of months, and for one single reason - because Vince McMahon wanted it to.

Despite the fact that he now owned WCW, he had such a grudge against the company that had once dominated his own that he destroyed his assets and buried his own stars.

There was a prevailing attitude among WWE guys that WCW's talent "didn't know how to work" or conduct themselves in a locker room environment, and that meant that most of them got buried.

The feud between The Undertaker and Diamond Dallas Page was especially one-sided, with Undertaker's wife scoring a pin on DDP at one point.

In the end, the Invasion storyline ended up being one of the most disappointing feuds in wrestling history, and millions of dollars in profit were left on the table.

Sometimes, a bit of real-life drama makes things more entertaining, but here it was completely destructive.
