By its very definition alone, "top" suggests one and in the world of WWE, the top star is indisputably John Cena. That is why all of the criticisms and calls for "so and so" to be the top guy make so little sense that it is becoming a joke of sorts. Should guys like Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns be TREATED as top stars? Yes, because competition for that spot creates professional rivalries and stronger performances. Remember Steve Austin and The Rock, who both fought for the right to be the No. 1 guy in the industry, leading to historically great showings and the hottest era in wrestling history? Allowing Ambrose and Reigns to at least compete with Cena for that top spot would fuel a much better product. But make no mistake about it, Reigns, Ambrose, Neville, Cesaro, Kevin Owens, Adam Rose, The Bunny and Heath Slater cannot all be marquee stars when there is only room enough for one on the mountaintop. Right now, Cena is that guy. Until someone steps up and proves they can unseat him, that will not change. Of course, it is also up to WWE Creative and Vince McMahon to create a more even playing field, but that is another argument for another time.
