12 WWE PPV Buys In 2015 Ranked (And What They Mean)
3. SummerSlam - 121,000 Buys
There's a big number jump from the last page to this page, and that's the difference between a B-show PPV and a traditional top four WWE PPV. SummerSlam is established and over as a brand, so the name alone is accountable for extra buys. That and the fact WWE loaded the card with quality bouts, including The Undertaker versus Lesnar, and John Cena taking on Seth Rollins with the WWE and US Title on the line. As draws go, it doesn't get much better than 'Taker and Lesnar with Cena as a co-main event and two titles on the line. The buyrate goes to show that those three veterans are still very much the most appealing stars in WWE today. What should also be noted is that WWE actually made an effort in promoting this show. They heralded it as the biggest SummerSlam ever, and the stars did numerous media appearances to promote it. It felt like a summer WrestleMania weekend. Something else to consider here, in 2014, SummerSlam did 298,000 on pay per view. It is still doing 121,000 buys on pay per view in 2015 when the Network is around. That's a damning stat for the WWE Network, which shows the digital platform hasn't latched on to the audience like it should have done.
