13 Essential Tips For Passing A WWE Try-Out
5. Make Sacrifices
The cliche of sacrifice gets thrown around all the time, but it comes across particularly strongly when you look at accounts of tryouts - whether passed or failed. Mike Bennett, today competing in WWE as Mike Kanellis (nominally), rejected the call after getting through his tryout way back in the day, choosing to stick with ROH. Of the experience, he said:
"They push you harder than anyone else. I was always ready to make any sacrifices to get into wrestling and that's exactly what the camp was: weeding out the guys who don't want it enough. It was clear after the first day and a half who really wanted it. They told us to show them something regardless of our experience."
Something of the Captain Obvious in there. The word "sacrifice" comes up a lot - Ken Kennedy uses it a lot when he talks about his attempts to get contracted, hitting WWE shows to get a job as an extra and get his name out, and Mickie James admits to giving up eating properly to afford trips to tryouts:
"I would drive 20 hours to a WWE tryout. If there was a chance that I could be there, I would make it a point to come, and if that meant living off of tuna fish for a week in order to be able to afford the trip, that's what I did."
So be prepared to say goodbye to loose cash and free time. And food, apparently.
