13 Ghosts That Will Definitely Haunt Vince McMahon

11. The Stigma Of The Steroid Trial

One of the darkest periods of Vince McMahon's life was the early nineties steroid trial. He almost lost his business, he almost lost all of his money, he almost lost his house, and he almost lost his personal freedom. There was a very real chance of him going to jail. He was indicted in 1993, going to trial in 1994 on accusations of distributing steroids to his wrestlers. He actually did lose the WWF in this period, as he ceded control to Linda McMahon. He was eventually acquitted, but the whole mess had grave consequences for the WWF. The promotion almost went out of business, with its reputation tarnished in the mainstream media. No advertisers wanted to work with Vince, and parents didn't want to let their kids watch his ill-reputed product. It must still bother him, and deep down, you also have to wonder if the steroid issues in wrestling still weigh on his conscience. He popularised huge bodies, and a generation of wrestlers ended up dying young due to steroid related conditions.
