The XFL was Vince McMahon's 2001 effort to create a national football league. It was very quickly a spectacular disaster, lacking any sporting credibility due to its association with pro wrestling. Ratings quickly tanked, meaning the WWF lost $35 million. Personally, McMahon also lost a ton of pride, after becoming the very public face of the venture. It is one of those things that will bother him forever. It is an embarrassment that the mainstream will always remember him for, something which he is still comically lampooned over.
