A lot of people criticised the introduction of the 'Eddie as Dominick's father' storyline, complaining that it turned a storyline built on respect and wins and losses into a soap opera. Well, that was kind of the point, and it wasn't even the WWE creative team that made the decision, anyway. Indeed, it was Eddie who felt the storyline could use a soap opera element in an effort to further draw in the Hispanic demographic. As for Rey, he was just happy that his son could accompany him to work. While not to everyone's tastes, the angle did prolong the feud, which could only result in better matches. Besides, it gave us Eddie's wonderful 'I promised my wife I'd keep my mouth shut if you beat me at the Great American Bash, which you did. But guess what? I LIED!' reveal and some interesting matches, such as when Eddie forced Rey to team with him against MNM, threatening to spill the beans if Mysterio failed to comply.
