13 Things We Learned From DDP On The Steve Austin Show Part 2
4. Dusty Rhodes
As is the trend these days - and rightfully so - we have another example of a prominent wrestler describing the positive impact the late Dusty Rhodes made on their career. After the AWA Dallas moved on to Florida Championship Wrestling, which he says it when the business got hard while also calling it "the greatest education ever." He says that Dusty was the first person to take him under his wing and start showing him the ropes. The American Dream had Page attending booking meetings, observing production and helping out with interviews. Dallas says he had him doing all that stuff because he appreciated DDP's creativity, but admits that it got him a lot of heat. DDP also says that if it wasn't for Dusty's wife, Michelle, there would be no Diamond Dallas Page. The two became tight when Rhodes left for Florida to go to WWE and he would call to speak to The Dream and she'd always make sure Dusty called him back. When Rhodes finished up with WWE and was getting ready to jump back to WCW, Page asked him what he should do. He told Dusty that he was done with the bar business and was either going to move to Chicago or Atlanta. Even though he was unable to share that he was heading to WCW, Dusty told him "If you ever hope to make it in this business you'd better move to Atlanta."
