13 Things We Learned From DDP On The Steve Austin Show Part 2

3. The Freebirds

After unsuccessfully trying to convince Dusty to let him wrestle, Page was placed with The Freebirds. Michael Hayes was now partnered up with Jimmy Garvin as a duo and the pair was making a run at the WCW world tag team titles. Hayes told DDP if he was going to be their manager he was going to lead them to the championship and said they would do their promos with their backs to the camera, and for him to just bust through and do all the talking. This proves once again that Hayes was absolutely one of the most unselfish performers in wrestling history, always working to get his opponents over and give the rub to whomever he was working with without being afraid to look like a fool. DDP talks about what a tremendous amount of pressure it was being placed in that position as the mouthpiece for two incredible talkers, but he nailed it. Eventually Magnum TA told him between his look, his rap and the girls he was drawing attention away from his wrestlers. Stone Cold adds "You're not just too over the top as a wrestling manager, you're too over the top, brother."
