13 Things We Learned From Mick Foley On Stone Cold's WWE Network Podcast
3. Working With The Undertaker
Turning the discussion back to The Undertaker, Austin talks about how pivotal he was for Mick's career, and this of course leads to him bringing up the infamous Hell in a Cell match at King of the Ring 1998. He asks Mick to tell the story about how his ideas for the bout came together.
He responds that he was watching the original Cell match between Taker and Shawn Michaels and when he wondered what he should do, Terry Funk jokingly said he should start the match on top of the cage. Even though it was said it jest, a fire was lit within Mick.
Austin says many of his Twitter followers wanted him to ask about the off-the-cage bumps and how you prepare for something like that. Mick mentions Jericho's story in his book about how the people in the crowd look like ants when you're up that high and how truly frightening it is.
He says that he basically couldn't come up with an idea of how to "very gingerly climb down" the cell once he was up there, so the solution to take the bump was born from that. Mick talks about how he had to come back out later in the night to interfere in the main event and that's often forgotten about, and they show the footage of his run-in during Steve's match with Kane where Foley admits he was out of it and has no memory of it.
