13 Things We Learned From New Day On Talk Is Jericho
10. Becoming Preachers
After not going anywhere with the initial version of the gimmick, the trio was brought into Vince's office where he dropped his big idea for them. He said he'd taken a long time to come up with it but felt that he had it...he wants them to be preachers. Kofi said he'd been to church twice in the past several years and had no idea what to do. Big E. quickly chimes in that it was partially his fault. He says after he dropped the IC title to Bad News Barrett he was told "We kinda like you but we have nothing for you so you better come up with something quickly." They were rushing through pre-taped segments and he was working on deliveries and decided to utilize the cadence he used during his brief preaching background. Road Dogg was in the room and told Vince about it, and that's how he came up with the idea to give them a southern baptist gimmick. E. said he thought it was awkward because he was doing it out of nowhere and it didn't make sense, but at least the new gimmick gave him a chance to use the cadence correctly within the confines of his character.
