13 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Feb 12)

12. Hometown Throwdown

Sammy Guevara vs. Dustin Rhodes was a hoot not only because of the work, which was excellent, but also Dustin's hometown crowd.

Texas loved him last night. The veteran hails from nearby Austin and was treated like a returning hero as he thought that dastardly little puke, ensuring big pops for everything he did and heat whenever he was worked over. It was fun stuff and Jake Hager's ringside presence was well-worked, with 'The Big Hurt' interjecting himself enough to be a pest, but not to the point that he got his stablemate disqualified.

Rhodes took the victory with his Final Reckoning finisher following a Canadian Destroyer. He was a perfect fiery foil for his sh*thead opponent in their rematch from 1 January, and the win was the right result given what went down immediately after. More on that in a bit.
