13 Ups & 2 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling Knockouts Knockdown 2021
3. Senegal Finds Success In Defeat
Much like Lady Frost, Jamie Senegal never needed to win her match vs. Tasha Steelz. Her involvement alone sufficed. It was only after she produced a banger that your writer understood why there was some hype surrounding her.
She felt like a major deal when facing the 'Boricua Badass'. Running through the former two-time Knockouts Tag Team Champion with ease, Senegal also executed a backflip-off-the-ropes German suplex a la Ring Of Honor's Bandido, that, while not performed with such ease as the ROH World Champion, was a major highlight from the tournament. Never before had the knockouts division witnessed such an attraction.
The finish sort of just appeared, with Tasha randomly dropping Jamie via crucifix, but that aside, the pair had tremendous chemistry together. Going back to that German suplex spot from earlier, in order to pull that off, both parties must have a high level of respect for each other. Tasha took a neck bump, too, heightening the risk level. It worked, it made the match feel more important (it was an opening-round match, remember), and it ended the first-round in style. A shame we couldn't have gotten more of Jamie, though.
