13 Ups & 4 Downs For Impact Wrestling In 2019
4. Patience Is Key
One of the best things about being a fan of professional wrestling is when you get a great story that you can really get invested in. That's something that happens greatly in Impact Wrestling, with their stories typically lasting a good deal of time, allowing us as fans to sink our teeth into the characters involved and the story that's playing out in front of our eyes.
We'll speak about Sami Callihan more generally in the next point, but take his rise to the top for example: you could argue that his ascension up the hierarchy in Impact began when he (accidentally) injured Eddie Edwards with a baseball bat in March 2018. Since then, 'The Callihan Death Machine' has told a great story through everything he's accomplished, with his ongoing rivalry opposite Tessa Blanchard having been going on since spring 2019. We're approaching a full year of those battling it out. Rivalries of that length just aren't common in wrestling these days.
Granted, it can often be a nuisance waiting for a story to properly kick off, and sometimes it may not exactly be well-received when things do reach that high point. However, the majority of Impact's stories, especially the ones during 2019, were given positive reviews for the most part. Unless something drastic happens to the creative team in Impact, then that will no doubt be the same in 2020.
