13 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Fyter Fest 2019

2. Allie Can't Carry Leva Bates

The Librarians and their shhhhh'ing session were eventually interrupted by former Impact Wrestling standout Allie, who was playing an extension of her old babyface character from that promotion. She looked genuinely delighted to be involved in this, though she'd raised Leva Bates and Peter Avalon's ire.

Unfortunately, the bout barely exceeded the corny segment. While Allie moved, fought, and generally looked good between the ropes, she and Bates struggled to put anything compelling together. This was particularly apparent when the former 'Blue Pants' was in control. Her shtick parts were noticeably smoother than her actual wrestling and there were some textbook heel spots with her de facto valet, Avalon, but the execution was the opposite of crisp and she never settled into a good rhythm.

A shame, as the Buy In could have done with another banger to maintain its momentum after the three-way tag. Still, we have to call this for what it was: a failure. Matches like this can't blight AEW pay-per-views going forward.

'Pretty' Peter did a grand job on the outside, at least.
