There were a whole lot of question marks on Cody (née Rhodes) before his New Japan in-ring debut at Wrestle Kingdom 11, and whilst not all of those questions were answered his fans will sleep a little better tonight. Cody picked up the win over Juice Robinson in a hard-fought match, a match that achieved its aim of introducing the grandson of a plumber to the New Japan audience.

Now that the goodwill of Cody's appearances on the independent scene has dissipated, the man is in a much better position wrestling as a heel. Some of his trash-talking throughout this match was fantastic, the arrogant claims of a man who knows how good he is and just how good he can be. The crowd began to pick up on it too, leading to a better reaction for the former WWE Intercontinental Champion.

Juice Robinson was the perfect opponent too, one of the most improved performers in all of pro wrestling in 2016 and a man who has perfected swearing inside the ring. Juice put up a hell of a fight, battling a destroyed leg to come close to picking up a win in his biggest singles match to date. The leg was too much though, and Cody came out victorious following Cross Rhodes.

Where does Cody go from here? The future looks good, to say the least.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
