Of all the clean losses John Cena has agreed to during his time as WWE's poster boy, hardly any have taken place on regular television rather than pay-per-view. One of the most notable was Cena's defeat at the hands of Dean Ambrose on the 20 September 2016 edition of SmackDown, mainly because it was a singles match.

Although guys like Kurt Angle, Shawn Michaels, and (yes) Justin Gabriel have pinned Cena on Raw, the guy hadn't been pinned cleanly on SmackDown since Booker T pulled a fast one during an 8-man elimination match in 2004. This made Dean's win the first clean one over Cena in over 12 years on the show.

An enjoyable if fairly routine TV main event, the Ambrose vs. Cena match also ended with a surprise sunset flip pin. Perhaps that takes away from Dean's victory a little; rather than going the whole hog and letting Ambrose win with his finisher, the idea here was that he had caught Cena by surprise.

Still, a clean win is a clean win.
