14 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (20 Nov)
9. AEW Is Good At Battle Royals Now
We can now add "battle royals" to the list of things that AEW knows how to do after their recent squash match successes, because this Diamond Dozen thing was fun, entertaining, and full of different notes.
Hangman Page emerged to a big pop pre-commercial break, though not as big as the one that greeted the arrival of BILLY GUNN. The former 'Mr. *ss' was over as hell here. He had a hoot of a run in a match that hid the ageing star's weaknesses, getting involved in a twerk-off with Sonny Kiss, playing the huge muscle monster breaking free from the roster when he was swarmed, and having his shins torn apart but that brutal bastard Orange Cassidy. His run was a riot.
Elsewhere, we got Shawn Spears interfering to knock rival Joey Janela out of the bout with a chair. The closing set piece was really well done as well, with AEW teasing a Page vs. Jungle Boy bout for next week only to reveal that MJF had never been eliminated. The Wardlow-assisted sh*thead swept Jungle Boy off the apron to earn his shot at the diamond ring then brawled with Page, adding a notch of heat to what would've already been an enticing bout, given Hangman's association with Cody.
More than a mere box-ticking exercise, though, this was well-structured and a blast to watch. Diving into its minutiae would undermine that.
