14 Wrestling Gimmicks Blatantly Stolen From Hollywood

5. Waylon Mercy - Cape Fear

Waylon Mercy made his WWE debut in 1995, very clearly ripped off from Robert De Niro's psychopath Max Cady in Martin Scorsese's brilliant 1991 remake of Cape Fear.

The evidence? Just look at the guy. He's got slicked back black hair, imposing tattoos, a Hawaiian shirt, and has a calm exterior demeanour that gives way to brutal violence at a moment's notice...just like Cady.

Some argue nowadays that Bray Wyatt's entire shtick is based off the movie, but Mercy's appropriation was much more blatant. Hilariously, Big E even teased Wyatt about it on Twitter when he called himself "the single most creative thing this industry has seen this century".

With a little more work, Mercy probably could've been a big-time player, given that he was quickly put in matches against the likes of Bret Hart and Diesel.
