Among the bright spots in Bret Hart’s WCW run were his four runs with the United States Title, the last of which ended in November 1999 when the Hitman was defeated by Scott Hall in a 4-way ladder match.

Ten years and six months later, in May 2010, Hart defeated The Miz for the title, now a WWE championship, despite having suffered a career-ending concussion and a stroke in the intervening years.

While Ric Flair and Roddy Piper each had 16-year gaps between reigns, and Terry Funk had gone an astounding 25 years between runs with the US title, those records had been set in WCW. The 52-year-old Hart, on the other hand, set a WWE record for the title with the unlikely victory, unseating Eddie Guerrero as the US Title’s comeback kid (or rather, comeback man).
