15 Best Non-WWE Matches Of The Last Decade (According To Dave Meltzer)
9. Davey Richards Vs. Michael Elgin (5* - ROH, 2012)
For all of Ring of Honor's stellar wrestling, they've only managed a measly one five-star-rated match in the last 10 years (with a further three, to be fair, coming during the glory Punk-Joe era between 2004 and 2006).
It happened on the second day of Showdown in the Sun in March 2012, when Davey Richards successfully defended the ROH World Championship against Michael Elgin in the night's go-home match.
That they managed to glean a five star rating - the promotion's first in six years - was impressive for a couple of reasons, not least the fact that Richards, as champion, was also involved in the main event match not 24 hours prior.
To boot, this was also the same weekend as WWE's WrestleMania XXVIII, where - needless to say - not one match managed to reach the same dizzy heights.
