9. Steve Austin Vs. Kurt Angle - WWF Title (SummerSlam 2001)

Austin really was on top of his game in the summer of 2001. After a lacklustre spring period fighting The Undertaker and Kane, Austin refound his mojo and had a couple of classics with Kurt Angle. The first (and best of these) took place at Summerslam and was, of course, for the WWF Championship. Heading into SummerSlam and before the dastardly Texas Rattlesnake turned heel, Austin and Angle had formed a hilarious partnership on television. Their backstage skits with Vince McMahon are legendary. But they got serious at SummerSlam and delivered a gripping, heated title match that had fans on the edge of their seats. Like all great title matches, the advantage swung back and forth for the duration of this twenty three minute contest. Angle even hit his oft-missed moonsault before focusing on finishing his opponent off with an ankle lock. Austin was fantastic as a vicious, a** kicking heel who ultimately needed the help of evil Alliance referee Nick Patrick to bail him out. A bloody, intense war this one had it all except a decent finish. Fans would be treated to another Austin/Angle blinder at Unforgiven.
