WWE essentially treated NXT as a joke. Replacing ECW in 2010, NXT saw 'rookies' (WWE developmental wrestlers) team up with WWE 'pros' in a bid to bag a WWE contract. There was a lot of dead weight in that initial series but it show the world Daniel Bryan and Wade Barrett, so it wasn't all bad. Barrett won the contest with the help of his Pro Chris Jericho and was promised a title shot on a pay-per-view of his choosing. The belief was that the rest of the NXT competitors would go back to FCW for further training and await the call. Nobody expected them to band together and attack WWE's top star. But that's exactly what happened on the June 7th 2010 Raw, just six days after the finale of NXT season one. All eight men appeared during the CM Punk versus John Cena main event and surrounded the ring before attacking. After laying waste to Cena, Punk, Luke Gallows, Matt Striker and Justin Roberts, the Nexus destroyed the ringside area, too. It was a powerful angle and a great start to the Nexus angle. Amongst all of the chaos Bryan was fired for choking Roberts with his necktie and spitting at Cena, acts that WWE felt went too far for their PG rating. The Nexus stable didn't end up changing the world or anything but their debut as a stable was a great WWE moment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVVtqoqzgNw
