https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dY6kw0P1XIc By mid-2000 the Monday Night War between WCW and the World Wrestling Federation was well underway. In fact, the WWF had pulled ahead of their competition, leaving World Championship Wrestling in the dust. However, another promotion had entered the fray. Paul Heymans Extreme Championship Wrestling had established itself as the popular alternative to the mainstream world of sports entertainment. Interestingly, a shocking controversy led to a strange event which involved all three companies. ECWs World Champion, Mike Awesome, had left the fledgling hardcore company for the greener pastures of WCW. To avoid further backlash, Awesome was to defend his ECW title during one of the companys house shows. It was unclear who the opponent would be, until some familiar music blared. Tazz returned to his Extreme home and defeated the turncoat Awesome to become the new ECW Champion. As Tazz was under contract to the World Wrestling Federation at the time, he was then entered into a match with the WWF Champion, Triple H. On the April 20th edition of Smackdown, the Human Suplex Machine battled the Cerebral Assassin. Although the match was a rather short affair and featured an unsatisfying ending, it proved to be a memorable encounter. Tazz took it to the Federations top star and looked to be headed for a victory. However, he was ultimately undone from an accidental chair shot from Tommy Dreamer.
