15 Best WWE SummerSlam Moments

4. Bret Hart Wins The Intercontinental Title From Mr. Perfect (1991)

This is one of the better Intercontinental Title changes in WWE history because of who won it, where he won it and the genuine emotion from the fans after he won it. Bret was a tag time wrestler in WWE for about five years before he went on his own to go after the Intercontinental Title. We all knew he was the better half of the Hart Foundation tag team with Jim Neidhart, but he was loyal to his partner and stuck by him. When he did break through on his own he rose up the ranks to set up this match with Mr. Perfect at the 1991 SummerSlam in New York City's Madison Square Garden. There's something special about the building that has come to be known as "The Garden" and when Bret had this 20 minute classic with Mr. Perfect they gave us one of those IC Title matches that we rave about over 20 years later. This is the kind of match that we point to to say "that's when the title really mattered" because it did. The finish was unforgettable. Perfect went to drop the leg on the chest, but Bret caught it, then he hooked the legs of Perfect on the mat and locked in the Sharpshooter. It was one of those things that my friends and I would try to mimic, but it wasn't easy. Hart pulled it off. There was also a great moment as he hugged his parents Stu & Helen in the crowd. It really was a special moment.
