15 Craziest WWE House Show Incidents
5. WWE Humiliates Tony Chimel
Before WWE went corporate and had to be wary of things like Be A Star, they routinely revelled in the humiliation of their employees. Nothing got a kick out of the boys quite like seeing a non in-ring talent, be it a ring announcer, commentator or even a t-shirt thrower, made to feel uncomfortable before a live crowd. One employee whom WWE ridiculed on several occasions was Tony Chimel.
He was not well-liked by some WWE employees, it seems. During a house show in Sheffield, England on October 27th 2002, the WWE crew decided to play a little rib on poor old Chimel. Before the main event of Booker T and Rikishi versus Matt Hardy and Brock Lesnar, special guest ring announcer Tazz told the crowd that Chimel had been badmouthing their town.
Following the match, Booker brought out Torrie Wilson, Edge and Rey Mysterio from the back. Then he got Chimel into the ring and asked him to explain himself. Of course it was a set-up all along. Surprising Chimel, Booker threw him down in the turnbuckle. Five stinkfaces followed. Yes, Chimel was held down while Edge, Booker, Rey, Torrie and, finally, Rikishi did their dirty business on his face.
According to house show reports from the time, Chimel looked 'embarrassed' by the whole episode. Quite.
