When Finlay retired from the ring wars he quickly moved into a role as an agent/producer. His responsibilities included booking matches and establishing a running order for WWE live events. It's a lot of responsibility and WWE doesn't trust just anybody with it. Fit, as a senior guy who has been around the business forever, is one of the few that WWE would trust with this amount of power.

Finlay was released from his role in March 2011, not long before WrestleMania XXVII. The reason for his release? He authorised The Miz interrupting the American national anthem before during the opening of a house show. This would be considered offensive at pretty much any show, but there happened to be members of the National Guard (a WWE sponsor) at this particular event.

They took offence and, as the man who made the call, Finlay was the one let go. He was just trying to get as much heat on The Miz as possible in the run up to his big WWE Championship match at 'Mania, but accepted full responsibility for his actions. Finlay was rehired a little over a year later, in July 2012.
