15 Great Wrestlers Lost In WWE's Mid-Card

5. Ryback

Ryback is one of the most puzzling cases on this list. At one point, he was an incredibly over babyface who appeared to be on his way to challenging John Cena for the role of top babyface in WWE. Then he was sacrificed in some of the most ridiculous and short-sighted booking decisions in company history. A failed heel turn, disappointing relationship with Paul Heyman and enhancement tag team with Curtis Axel threatened to kill Ryback's character dead. But he returned to great fanfare, battling the Authority and earning the admiration of the fans. Despite a brief push toward the top of the card, he again settled into the midcard, despite possessing the look of a bona fide ass kicker, constantly improving in-ring skills and incredibly popularity among fans. A fringe player in the Authority versus everyone else story, Ryback continues to share the ring with main event players without ever really being one himself. It is a disappointing position to find himself in but if history is any indication, the performer will make the best of his situation in hopes of one day receiving that much deserved shot at headlining pay-per-views as the company's marquee hero.
